Webinar - Ergonomics and Informal Work in the United States: Case Examples from New York City

The IEA Informal Work Technical Committee conducts a free webinar series to share information about the nature of informal work, its relationship and implications for ergonomics and human factors (E/HF), and research occurring at the intersection of informality and E/HF around the world. The next webinar (90 minutes) is scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025, 16:00 UTC, 12:00 US ET on "Ergonomics and Informal Work in the United States: Case Examples from New York City."

In this webinar, the most representative informal jobs from New York City, the largest city in the US, will be presented from the perspective of both occupational health service providers and community-based organizations serving informal workers. The role of ergonomics in addressing occupational health in an urban informal work setting will be highlighted.
The webinar will feature two presentations:
- Introduction to Informal Work in New York City, by Acran Salmen-Navarro MD, MSc, AEP, Bellevue / NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic, NYU Grossman School of Medicine
- Informal Work and Community Based Organizations, by Nilbia Coyote, Executive Director, New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE).

Presentations will be in Spanish with live English translation. Attendance permits live interaction with the presenters in a moderated Q&A in both Spanish and English. Registered attendees can complete a brief post-webinar survey to receive e-certificates of completion.
