Visual complexity of safety signs was studied by showing participants bar, square, and irregular patterns, pushing a button to identify the pattern. Bars were superior in reaction time, errors, and cumulative learning time. The authors recommend that safety sign design should prioritize bar patterns and simpler, more standard designs.
