Students - Submit Your Application for the Alphonse Chapanis Award

Due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic,  we are organizing two versions of the Annual Meeting this year.

  • The first portion will take place in person in Baltimore during the week of October 4, 2021. Social distancing  and other protocols (as determined by applicable CDC and local requirements) will be in place at the conference. We encourage attendees to be vaccinated if they plan to attend in person. Our goal is to record the majority of the content from the in-person meeting and to make it available after the meeting to those who are unable to attend in-person.  Registration will open in June.
  • The second portion of the 65th Annual Meeting will take place virtually from October 25 - 27, 2021. The virtual portion of the meeting will be livestreamed and interactive via the same platform as last year's virtual meeting.
  • Both formats will be published in a single volume of the Annual Meeting Proceedings.

The International Annual Meeting is the premier educational activity organized by the Society.  The annual meeting typically hosts between 1,500 and 2,000 attendees from education, government, and industry and features more than 600 technical presentations. The meeting continues to ensure the quality of the submissions through rigorous peer review, while ensuring the proceedings are archived and indexed for wide dissemination.  Additionally, content is tailored to meet attendee interests by following tracks organized by the society’s diverse Technical Groups.

A variety of special sessions, from workshops to keynotes to panels, provide the opportunity to learn from thought
leaders in the field of human factors and ergonomics and the industries we shape. The annual meeting is a friendly
gathering with a variety of networking opportunities including receptions and other social activities for students and early career professionals.  The annual meeting also features the Career Center - a one stop hub for your next career move.

The annual meeting continues to evolve to meet HFES member needs and interests.  Recently added features include an embedded Practitioner Day with a strong emphasis on sharing hands-on and applied project findings, mentorship activities, a Womens Affinity Group luncheon, poster sessions (including Posters with Fellows) and much more.  The HFES International Annual Meeting truly has something for everyone.
