Campaign Statement
I am honored to have been nominated by my fellow HFES members to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. HFES has been my professional home since I joined as a student member in 2005, and I would be grateful for the opportunity to help guide the Society through an important period in its history.
Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of serving HFES in many capacities. I served on the leadership team of the Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making Technical Group, founded the LGBTQ Affinity Group and chaired the Council of Affinity Groups. I have been a long-time reviewer for the Annual Meeting/ASPIRE, the Healthcare Symposium and HFES publications, serve as Associate Editor of the Journal of Human Factors in Healthcare, and currently serve as Conference Chair for ASPIRE. These experiences have given me a broad understanding of our Society's members, programs and operations across academia, industry and government.
Professionally, I practice human factors every day. I am Senior Principal Engineer and Division Director at Aptima, where I lead human-machine teaming research, product development and business development in the defense sector, with a focus on the decision advantage and operational health and safety markets. I also lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 scientists and engineers. In parallel, I am the founding Chief Technology Officer of Continuum Health Solutions, where we are applying human-centered design to passive remote patient monitoring for older adults. I am also a member of several teams within the NATO Science & Technology Organization. Across these roles, I have managed multimillion-dollar portfolios, built strategic partnerships, and balanced technical innovation with responsible financial stewardship.
HFES stands at a pivotal moment. Like many professional societies, we face financial challenges, but I believe they are also an opportunity. Our future depends on fully embracing HFES as both a premier scientific society and the professional home for practitioners. If elected, I will work with the Executive Council to strengthen both member value and financial sustainability by growing and diversifying our three primary revenue streams: membership, conferences and publications. Each offers opportunities for innovation in how we recruit and retain members, deliver conferences and events, expand educational offerings and increase the visibility and impact of HF/E research and practice.
HFES has given me mentors, collaborators, lifelong friends and countless professional opportunities. I would be honored to give back by helping ensure our Society remains financially strong, professionally relevant, and positioned for continued growth.
