HFES welcomes your membership! Founded in 1957, the Society is the largest multidisciplinary professional organization in the world for individuals in the HF/E field with members located throughout the United States and in 40 other countries. HFES has 24 Technical Groups and Local and Student chapters. Membership benefits include the bimonthly research journal Human Factors, the quarterly applications magazine Ergonomics in Design, a monthly newsletter, complimentary access to webinars, the HFES Career Center, and discounts on other HFES publications and meeting registration fees. The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society members include psychologists, engineers, designers, scientists, and usability professionals, all of whom have a common interest in designing systems and equipment to be safe and effective for the people who operate and maintain them.
Members are employed in industries, universities and colleges, government agencies, consulting firms, military research centers, public utilities, and other settings. More than 40% hold a doctoral degree, a third hold a master's degree, and about 15% have a bachelor's degree (as the highest degree held in all categories). Students make up about 15% of the total membership.
