Educational Background: Mr. Killam is a board certified Human Factors Professional with an educational and professional background that combines both engineering and psychology. He holds a BS in Engineering form Va Tech and an MA in Psychology from Marymount University. He has worked for over 40 years in the areas of system requirements analysis, human-systems integration, user-based testing, and system evaluation. In addition, he is an Adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and George Mason University.
Supplemental Background: Mr. Killam's work has spanned user-research associated with interface design and evaluation as well as safely analysis. Most of his work is in the area of product assessment and applied research. His clients have included large Government offices including the US State Department, the US Geological Survey, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Cancer Institute, the US Courts, the Internal Revenue Service, Health and Human Services, and the Food and Drug Administration. His work for the IRS was presented as a case study in user-centered design techniques in Interaction Design: Beyond Human Computer Interaction, (2002) Jennifer Preece, Yvonne Roger, and Helen Sharp–a textbook used at several national universities. His commercial clients have included firms such as US Airways, GEICO, CapitalOne, WeatherBug, Network Solutions, Porter Novelli, Nextel, and AOL. He has also worked for several non-profits, universities, and member service organizations including the National Pain Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The LIVESTRONG Foundation, the University of Maryland, ULCA, the University of Virginia, George Mason University, the Aerospace Medical Association, and the Retired Officer Association.
