Human Factors and Ergonomics Society: Stories From the First 50 Years
Editor:Jack Stuster
Year Published:2006

This collection of stories from HFES members documents and illuminates many of the advancements that have occurred in the human factors/ergonomics field in the last 50 years. Editor Jack Stuster says, "The history of our discipline is composed of countless occasions in which the applications of our methods and data have overcome skepticism, inertia, and design flaws by producing immediately useful results that contribute to human well-being."

Human Factors and Ergonomics Society: Stories From the First 50 Years contains humorous anecdotes and historical reflections by more than three dozen members, arranged in three sections:

  • Human Factors - Notes on the Origin of the Discipline
  • Stories from the Careers of Human Factors Professionals
  • Tales from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society

Douglas Harris, chair of the HFES 50th Anniversary Task Force, says, "I think that whatever time you spend with these stories will be enjoyable for the insights and humor they contain, and for the understanding and appreciation they provide for our profession."
