ABOUT THE WEBINAR

This webinar will describe

  • what standards are and why they are important
  • what is in a typical standard
  • who develops standards and how
  • how to find human factors/ergonomics standards
  • HF/E standards

This presentation will be of interest to students who want to know how HF/E is practiced, researchers who want to see their findings put into practice, and, most importantly practitioners who may be wondering, ?What should I worry about to do my job, and where do I find the information I need??

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Paul A. Green is a research professor in the Driver Interface Group at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute and adjunct associate professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE). Paul has a bachelor?s degree in mechanical engineering (Drexel University) and three degrees from the University of Michigan: master?s in IOE and in psychology and joint PhD in both. He is a Certified Human Factors Professional.

Green has conducted research on driver workload and driver distraction, navigation system design, and related topics, which are described in about 200 publications. To get research into practice, he has been the lead author of the SAE recommended practices concerning navigation system design (?the 15-second rule,? SAE J2364), design compliance calculations (SAE J2365), and driving performance measures and statistics (J2944). In addition, he teaches courses on automotive human factors, human-computer interaction, and the Michigan Human Factors Engineering Short Course, now in its 53rd year. Professionally, he is past president of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, a member of its Executive Council, a Fellow of the Ergonomics Society, and a board member of the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics.
