Online Human Factors FAQ for Librarians
Thanks for your interest in subscribing to Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (online ISSN 1547-8181). Human Factors is hosted online by IngentaConnect. Below are some frequently asked questions regarding institutional subscriptions. If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to contact the HFES Communications Department.
1. How can I view sample content before I decide to subscribe?
There are two ways to view sample content. First, a number of sample articles may be found on the Human Factors information page. These articles won the HFES Jerome H. Ely Award for the best paper published in the previous years' volumes. Second, you may soon sign up for a free trial to access one issue for 30 days at IngentaConnect.
2. How will I access the online journal?
There are two ways to access the journal content: via the HFES Web site and via IngentaConnect. However, if you are logging in for the first time, you will need to complete a simple registration, which takes just a few minutes. Go to the IngentaConnect main page and click the "Need to register? Sign up here" link on the right side of the page. When HFES receives notice of your completed registration, your access will be turned on. This generally takes about 24 hours during the business week.
3. What content do I get with my subscription?
In 2007, you will have access to the current volume plus past volumes to 1993. In addition, after the last issue of the 2007 volume is published, you will receive a CD-ROM containing all the 2007 papers in PDF format. (Printed back issues may be purchased individually.) As long as you remain a subscriber, you will have access to all online issues.
4. How will our users access the online journal?
When you register on the IngentaConnect site, you will be asked for your IP addresses, or you may set up your subscription for use with usernames and passwords.
5. How many users can access the journal at the same time?
There is no limit to the number of concurrent users.
6. Can users within different locations in our institution access the journal?
Yes, if your institution permits access from multiple locations on campus.
7. If we cancel, will we retain access to issues to which we subscribed?
Institutions subscribing only to the online journal will receive a CD-ROM at the end of each volume containing a PDF archive of the issues to which they subscribed.
8. Where can I find information about rates for library consortia?
Please contact Lois Smith for consortium rates.
9. Is a license agreement necessary?
Yes, please read and return a signed copy of the License Agreement so that HFES can activate your online subscription. If you have questions about any of the terms in the License Agreement, please contact HFES Communications Director Lois Smith.
10. How can I obtain user data for my Human Factors subscription?
IngentaConnect permits librarians to access data about downloads of full text to gauge usage demand.
11. Does HFES plan to make all previously published articles available online?
Yes, we plan to have all back issues available (since 1958) by the end of 2009 as part of the new HFES Digital Library. See the HFES Digital Library FAQ. The Digital Library will be launched in October 2007 with content back to 1993.
