What is the Digital Library?
The Digital Library is an online collection of five peer-reviewed periodicals from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society:

  • Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society
    first published in 1957, ISSN 0018-7208, bimonthly; 2006 Impact Factor .861
  • Ergonomics in Design: The Quarterly of Human Factors Applications
    first published in 1993, ISSN 1064-8046, quarterly
  • Journal of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making (JCEDM)
    first published in 2007, ISSN 1555-3434, quarterly
  • Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Annual Meetings
    first published in 1972, ISSN 1071-1818, annual ("print" version is CD-ROM only)
  • Reviews of Human Factors and Ergonomics
    first published in 2006, ISSN 1557-234X, annual; included in Digital Library-Archive two years after first publication

    What packages are available?
    Digital Library-Archive is a one-time purchase of all online volumes except the three most current years (e.g., up to 2007 if purchased in 2010).

    When will the Digital Library be available?
    The Digital Library opened in fall 2007.

    How long will I have access to the content?
    Digital Library-Archive is a one-time purchase with perpetual access. The available content is determined by the year purchased; additional back volumes can be accessed with payment of an annual maintenance fee (see below).

    How can I view sample content before I decide to subscribe?
    You can sign up for a free trial to access one issue of each publication for 30 days at IngentaConnect.

    What are the terms of use?

  • Access is granted to individual for personal use only.
  • Content may not be distributed to others without permission from HFES, nor may personal login details be provided to nonsubscribers for the purpose of accessing content without permission or subscription.
  • Misuse of access or content is grounds for termination of access without refund.

    What does the Digital Library cost?

  • Digital Library-Archive: $1,050
  • DL-Archive optional annual maintenance fee for additional back volumes: $100

    What happens if I choose not to pay the annual maintenance fee?
    You will continue to have access to the content that was available at the time you purchased Digital Library-Archive; no additional back volumes will be accessible.

    How can I purchase the Digital Library?
    Secure online orders may be placed at the Digital Library-Archive Web page.

    How can I access the content once I've purchased it?
    The Digital Library is hosted on IngentaConnect. HFES will send you instructions for registering for access, a simple process in which you create an Ingenta username and password. When HFES turns on your access (1-2 business days after registration), you will be able to access all content for which you have paid/subscribed.

    Is there a special rate for individual members of ergonomics societies affiliated with the International Ergonomics Association?
    Yes, IEA members may purchase the Digital Library-Archive at the special rate of $893. (This offer is not valid for institutions.) Please place your order directly with the HFES Member Services Department, 310/394-1811, fax 310/394-2410.
