HFES Member Application Instructions
Applicants for Full Member, Associate, and Affiliate status in the Society must
meet specific criteria for the membership classes, as defined below.
-
Full Member. Anyone who has an approved bachelor's degree and five years
of full-time experience in human factors and ergonomics. Academic experience
may be substituted in part for work experience up to a total of four years,
depending on the degree and major. Requires the endorsement of two Full Members
of the Society.
-
Associate. Anyone who is active in the human factors field but does not
qualify for Member status. Requires one endorsement by a Full Member of the
Society.
-
Affiliate. Anyone who is interested in human factors, but does not
qualify for Member, Associate, or Student Affiliate status.
The annual dues for Full Member, Associate, or Affiliate status are for the
period January through December. Memberships are for calendar years only. Also,
there is a processing fee for new membership applications. Included in the
membership are subscriptions to the Human Factors journal, the HFES
Bulletin, Ergonomics in Design, and the Directory and Yearbook.
To apply for Full Member or Associate status, applicants must arrange for one or
two endorsements by HFES Members in good standing (as required by the membership
class). A copy of the on-line application will be sent to endorsers if
an Internet e-mail address is provided; otherwise, applicants must ensure that
endorsers mail a printed copy of the application to the HFES central office.
After completing and reviewing the application form, it can be submitted on-line
by clicking the "SUBMIT APPLICATION" button. If you want to
print the application form, use the "Print" command of your Web
browser program.
The membership application will be processed after the Society receives
all fees and endorsements, as required.
