Online Human Factors Frequently Asked Questions
Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society
will be available online on the IngentaConnect site in May 2005. The first
issue of Volume 47 (Spring 2005) will be available at that time, in addition to
back volumes. Below are some frequently asked questions regarding individual
and institutional subscriptions:
Individuals (Members and Nonmember Subscribers)
1. How will I access the online journal?
There are two ways to access the journal content: via the
HFES Web site and via
IngentaConnect. However, if you are logging in for the first time, you
will need to complete a simple registration, which takes just a few minutes. Go
to the IngentaConnect
main page and click the "Need to register? Sign up here" link on the right side
of the home page. When HFES receives notice of your completed registration,
your access will be turned on.
2. How will I know when an issue is available?
HFES will send you an e-mail message when new issues are posted on
IngentaConnect. Please be sure to send HFES updates if you should change e-mail
addresses. In addition, be sure that your e-mail system will accept messages
from hfes.org.
3. How long does my subscription last?
Members and subscribers receive four issues per calendar year, with the first
issue appearing in the spring, then summer, fall, and winter. If the final
issue in the volume appears after the end of the calendar year, you will still
have access to it.
4. What do I get with my subscription?
Each year, HFES will publish the current volume plus one past volume. (In 2006
we will put both the 2006 and 2001 volumes on line.) In addition, after the
last issue of the volume is published, you will receive a CD-ROM containing all
the published papers in the current volume. Members receive either the
online or print journal as a benefit of membership; other individuals may
subscribe (see the rates at the
Human Factors Web page
). As long as you remain a member or subscriber, you will have access to all
online issues.
5. What happens if I decide to go back to the print version?
You may change your preference from online to print issues anytime, but the
change will not take effect until the beginning of the next volume year. (For
example, if you sign up for the online journal in 2006, you will continue to
receive it in this format through the final issue of the year, Winter 2006.) If
you want to receive printed back issues, you may purchase them at the regular
price ($63/copy for members, $75/copy for nonmembers). Members and nonmembers
may also choose to receive both the print and online versions for an additional
cost.
6. If I cease my HFES membership or subscription, can I still get access to
Human Factors?
Yes. If you cease your HFES membership, you will no longer have access to
current or back issues of the online journal. However, you can subscribe as a
nonmember at the prevailing rate, purchase individual articles of interest, or
purchase printed back issues. The same options apply if you decide to stop your
nonmember subscription.
7. Are there any conditions of use of the online journal?
Yes, please read the License
Agreement
for policies regarding fair use, reprint permissions, and so on.
