FAA Seeks Entries for Design Competition

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is sponsoring a national design competition for undergraduate and graduate students during the 2010-2011 school year. The competition challenges individual students or teams of students from U.S. colleges and universities, working under the mentorship of a faculty adviser, to address challenges in four broad areas:

  • Airport operations and maintenance
  • Runway safety/runway incursions
  • Environmental interactions of airports
  • Airport management and planning

The competition opened on August 30, 2010, and closes on April 15, 2011. Cash prizes will be given to first-, second-, and third-place winners in each category. First-place winners will present their design solutions at a national aviation event in the summer of 2011.

Competition guidelines and full details are available at on the competition Web site, or contact Debbie Ross (dross@odu.edu) for more information.
