Noise and Hearing Conservation, April 28, 2017 — University of California, Davis Extension, Sacramento, CA.
Protect your employees' hearing—learn how noise is generated, ways to control industrial noise and how to measure it in the workplace. Familiarize yourself with regulatory requirements concerning hearing conservation and workplace noise, as well as the requirements for establishing a hearing conservation program. Learn to choose proper hearing protection services, how audiometry is performed, and how to conduct a noise survey. This is an elective course in the Workplace Health and Safety Certificate Program.

  • Be able to improve work operations

Health and Safety Refresher for Hazardous Waste Workers–8 Hours, May 5, 2017 — University of California, Davis Extension, Sacramento, CA.
This course provides hazardous waste-site employees and supervisors with the annual refresher training in health and safety for hazardous waste workers. Current topics include: chemical and oil spill cleanup, animal feeding operations, personal safety and urban survival, marijuana gardens, biological hazards, heavy equipment, heat illness prevention and heavy metals. New case studies and exercises accompany each module. This course meets requirements established by OSHA for training under the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(8) and the equivalent California Standard T8 CCR 5192(e)(8). Participants should first complete the 40-Hour Health and Safety Training for Hazardous Waste Workers.

This workshop will provide useful and practical tools to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders using ergonomic principles and increase worker production.
 

Cutting Edge Ergonomics: How to Control Ergonomic Injuries with Groundbreaking Knowledge and New Tools, May 9, 2017 — Auburn University, Auburn, AL.
This workshop will provide participants with the very latest information to how to assess risk and design jobs to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). New research finding have shown that MSDs result from a fatigue failure process, and important implications of this research will be presented. Participants will learn to use new tools to better assess job risks and to improve job design.
 

Environmental and Toxics Laws and Regulations, May 9–10, 2017 — University of California, Davis Extension, Sacramento, CA.
Examine the key federal, state and local environmental regulatory programs that environmental managers, consultants, planners, citizen activists and regulators need to know to remain compliant. This overview provides insight into the major environmental programs and permitting requirements governing industrial processes and activities. Learn about the specific regulations pertaining to air and water quality, climate change, toxic materials, hazardous wastes, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and green chemistry. Significant emphasis is given to the key elements of the regulatory programs from compliance and auditing perspectives.

OSHA Training Requirements Overview, May 17, 2017 — University of California, Davis Extension, Sacramento, CA.
Identify key training requirements for a variety of OSHA standards including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program requirements, respiratory protection, heat illness prevention, blood-borne pathogens, forklifts, ergonomics, hazard communication and the HAZWOPER standard. Discuss common deficiencies in training that lead to OSHA citations as well as tips to ensure training is effective at reducing workplace injuries.
 

Indoor Air Quality Management, May 18–19, 2017 — University of California, Davis Extension, Sacramento, CA.
Learn about indoor air quality and related health issues, with emphasis on commercial and institutional buildings. Examine common indoor air quality complaints, including concerns about mold, chemicals, odors and persistent health complaints. Discover green building concepts and how indoor air quality fits with LEED building designs and certifications. Review indoor air quality problems.

Health and Safety Training for Hazardous Waste Workers– 40 Hour, June 5–9, 2017 — University of California, Davis Extension, Sacramento, CA.
Complete the portion of the OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.120 (T8 CCR 5192 in California) specifying training requirements for hazardous waste workers (HAZWOPER). Designed for workers involved in investigation and clean-up of hazardous waste sites, this course covers:

  • Hazard awareness, hazardous waste regulations and exposure
  • Medical monitoring, health and safety planning
  • Respiratory protection, personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Monitoring and sampling equipment
  • Site characterization and control, decontamination, health and safety laws and rights
  • Emergency response
